Recognition, at Last, for Area War Hero

On October 21, 1944, a South River native named Anton S. Jozefowicz – a sergeant in the Army’s 634th Tank Destroyer Battalion – died of gunshot wounds during a World War II battle in Germany. He was 24 years old, unmarried, and without children. Since 2000, Sgt. Jozefowicz’s sister, Jennie Jozefowicz Trojanowski, has tried to obtain information that could lead to her brother posthumously receiving a Purple Heart for the actions that resulted in his death.

Frustrated with an unresponsive bureaucracy, she contacted me for help. After she contacted me, I wrote about Sgt. Jozefowicz to the Department of the Army, which concluded that he was eligible for the Purple Heart and other medals. Now, 66 years after his death, Ms. Trojanowski has received her brother’s medals and preserved them with the American flag from his coffin.

I have worked with more than 21,000 constituents to help them cut through bureaucratic red tape. If I can help you – maybe by expediting your application for VA benefits, solving problems with the IRS, or helping to obtain Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid benefits – please call me at 1-87-RUSH-HOLT or go to my website.

Combating Child Obesity, Child Hunger

For millions of children, the only good meal they get is at school. To strengthen child nutrition programs and fight child obesity and child hunger, last week I supported the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act. The bill, which awaits President Obama’s signature, will increase the number of children enrolled in the school meals program, improve the nutritional quality of school meals, remove junk food from schools, and promote nutrition and wellness for students. More information about the bill can be found here.

I’m pleased that the bill includes my initiative to provide $5 million annually for Farm to School programs. Farm to School programs bring locally or regionally grown fresh produce into schools, thereby significantly improving nutrition for children eating school lunches. Currently, 10,000 Farm to School programs exist, but there are 94,000 public and nonprofit private schools operating school lunch programs that could offer one. Farm to School programs provide good nutrition, help in the fight against childhood obesity, and economically support our local farmers. Spring Semester Internships in My Office Available

I am pleased to offer unpaid internship positions in my Washington D.C. Office and District Office in West Windsor. Interns are provided unique and challenging learning opportunities about the daily operations of my Congressional office. Selection is competitive.

In the busy atmosphere of a Congressional office, it is important that interns possess a mature, professional demeanor. I value well-organized individuals who are able to follow instructions, take initiative, and relate well to others in a fast-paced environment.

I am accepting applications, through December 12, for the spring semester. Upon receiving your application, a member of my staff will conduct an interview either by phone or in person. I usually select people in high school, college, or beyond - I encourage individuals of all ages and career levels with an interest in public service to apply. Sometimes interns can receive credit for their internship through their school or university. Please click here for application instructions and more information, and feel free to contact me if you have more questions.
