Budget and Taxes

Home >> Issues >> Budget and Taxes

Throughout my years of service I have been, and will continue to be, a fiscal conservative. Families across the country live within their budget every year, and I believe the federal government should be no different - we must be responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.

Unfortunately, Washington continues to spend and borrow money it doesn't have, and America's national debt is now over $17 trillion. We are seeing the effects of the federal government's out-of-control spending and high debt in our country's weak economy: a declining labor force participation rate now at 62.8% (meaning 91.8 million people not working), high tax rates, and 6.7 million more people suffering in poverty since the President was first elected to office.

America's debt is a result of excessive spending and budget mismanagement.  The solution lies in responsible, meaningful spending cuts, a balanced budget, and tax reform.
