Rene Coronado -- Fellow

Rene Coronado wanted to serve his country and continue his education so he enlisted in the United States Army National Guard.

Upon graduation from Texas A&M University and completion of the ROTC curriculum, Coronado was commissioned as a second lieutenant.

During his active duty years, from May 1997 through December 2007, Coronado’s service included a six month tour of duty in Iraq with the 2nd Battalion/17th Field Artillery Unit of the 2nd Infantry Division as the Battalion Personnel Officer.

Following his departure from the Army, Coronado returned to South Texas to pursue an advanced degree.  While working as a Veterans Representative at Texas A&M, Coronado heard about an opportunity to work for Congressman Blake Farenthold through the U.S. House of Representatives and was selected to fill that position in July 2013.

Assisting veterans in obtaining their benefits has proven to be both challenging and rewarding for Coronado.  And his experience has inspired him to continue working as a veterans advocate in some capacity when he completes fellowship in July 2015.
