Thank you to all the men and women who have so honorably served this nation.

A strong national defense is of utmost priority as our world continues to globalize and the complexities of international and national interests grow. The threats of nuclear and biochemical terror are very real along with global threats from social unrest from hotbeds of communism and totalitarian reign. We must be vigilant.

I believe in properly funding the activities, training, and protection of those who are risking their lives on the front lines for our safety. Due to the budget crisis we face, I believe we must tackle the bloated Department of Defense procurement process, using common sense and fiscal responsibility when it comes to programs that are no longer meeting department needs.

By shrinking out-of-date, bureaucratic programs, introducing better technology and curtailing government's wasteful habits, we can provide our troops with the tools they need to achieve their missions successfully and strengthen our military tactics and methods.

When our troops return from duty, I am committed to ensuring they and their families have better access to healthcare, job assistance, and rehabilitation opportunities in the communities where they live.

Providing veterans with the resources needed to live independent and productive lives is a priority for me, especially for those returning from war, who have made great personal sacrifices.  It is vitally important that services, including mental health resources, be available to support our veterans and their families.

You can hear more about my thoughts here on how our country can extend support to our veterans through phone and web resources. Click here for more links to resources for Veterans and service members.
