Congressman Patrick Meehan Statement on Latest Jobs Report

Jul 8, 2011
Press Release

“I am again disappointed in today’s report showing that hiring has remained stalled. It is clear that this Administration’s policies are not working. Unemployment has remained above 8 percent for 29 consecutive months, which is the longest period since the Great Depression.

“Working together with my colleagues in the House of Representatives we have passed nine separate bills to grow our economy and create millions of jobs.  Yet the Senate has not considered a single one. With 14.1 million Americans unemployed - that is unacceptable.

“I hear again and again from businesses in Southeastern Pennsylvania that they need relief. They are forced to spend money to comply with burdensome regulations and bureaucratic red-tape – money that could be used to hire additional workers or invest in the growth of their business.

“The disappointing report today from the Department of Labor underscores the need for Congress and the Administration to work together on bipartisan solutions that will make significant improvements to our economy and our country’s job growth.”
