Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement in response to this morning’s Supreme Court decision in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby that allows closely-held corporations to prevent their employees from receiving birth control coverage as part of their health plans.
“This morning’s Supreme Court decision is a blow to women’s rights. Decisions about a woman’s health care should be made by herself and her doctor – not by her employer. A corporation’s ability to dictate health care policies to its employees on the grounds of ‘religious beliefs’ is a dangerous precedent that opens the door to further acts of discrimination.
