Millions of Americans have already gotten coverage, many for the first time.

Here are 14 things you should know about the Marketplace:

No matter what state you live in, you can use the Marketplace. Some states operate their own Marketplace, and in other states the Marketplace is run by the federal government. You can sign up for 2015 Marketplace coverage as soon as November 15, 2014.

Health insurance plans offered through the Marketplace are run by private companies.

Every health plan in the Marketplace offers the same set of essential health benefits, including doctor visits, preventive care, hospitalization, prescriptions, and more.

You can compare your options in the Marketplace and see what your premium, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs will be before you make a decision to enroll.

After you fill out a Marketplace application you’ll learn if you’re eligible for lower costs on your monthly premiums. Most people who apply for health coverage through the Marketplace will qualify for some kind of savings.

You can apply for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) through the Marketplace any time of year. These programs provide free or low-cost coverage to millions of Americans with limited incomes, disabilities, and certain family situations.

If you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, you may apply for health coverage through the Marketplace outside the Open Enrollment Period.

Insurance plans offered through the Marketplace can’t deny you coverage because of pre-existing conditions like cancer or diabetes, and they can’t charge women and men different premiums.

In the Marketplace, you generally can get dental coverage as part of a health plan or by itself through a separate, stand-alone dental plan.

You must report certain qualifying life changes to the Marketplace, such as if you get married or divorced, have a child or adopt a child, or have a change in your income. After you report life changes to the Marketplace, you’ll get a new eligibility notice that will explain if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period and lower costs.

Members of federally recognized tribes and Alaska Natives can enroll in Marketplace coverage any time of year, and they can change plans as often as once a month.

If you have an income-generating business with no employees, you’re considered self-employed and can get coverage through the Marketplace.

Even if you have access to a student health plan, you can choose to buy a health plan through the Marketplace instead. You may qualify for lower costs based on your income.

If you don’t agree with a decision the Health Insurance Marketplace makes, like whether you’re eligible to buy a plan or whether you’re eligible for lower costs based on your income, you may be able to appeal the decision.

Wed, 24 Sep 2014 00:00:00 -0400 Healthcare.gov https://www.healthcare.gov/blog/14-facts-about-the-health-insurance-marketplace What to do after your doctor visit https://www.healthcare.gov/blog/what-to-do-after-your-doctor-visit

Now that you’ve found a doctor and had your first visit, you may be wondering what to do next. It’s important to follow through with your doctor’s recommendations.

For example, if your doctor told you to go to a specialist, call for an appointment. Even if you see a specialist for a specific service or condition, you’ll always come back to your primary care doctor.

Here are some tips to help you get the care you need:

Ask your doctor’s office to notify you when your next visit or recommended health screenings should happen.

Put an appointment reminder on your calendar or use a smartphone app.

Don’t be too busy to go to your appointment. Remember to put your health first.

If you have questions or concerns between visits, call your doctor’s office. They can help answer your questions and adjust any medications you’re taking.

If you’re worried you can’t afford care, ask your doctor about ways to lower the cost of medication and services.

Don’t be scared. By getting the preventive care that is right for you, your doctor is more likely to find an illness or problem early and help you get better faster.

If the way your doctor or office staff spoke or acted made you not want to return or listen to them, speak up or consider changing doctors.

Watch the video: "The Day After" - from Coverage to Care

Watch the video: "The Final Word" - from Coverage to Care

Print your own booklet: Step 8 – Next Steps After Your Appointment

Sample Explanation of Benefits

Mon, 22 Sep 2014 00:00:00 -0400 Healthcare.gov https://www.healthcare.gov/blog/what-to-do-after-your-doctor-visit Act by September 30 to submit proof of income documents! https://www.healthcare.gov/blog/submit-proof-of-income-documents
When you applied for Marketplace coverage, you might have reported a lower household income than we could verify in our data sources. You should choose a doctor or other health care provider that you can work with, trust, and feel comfortable talking to.

Here are 5 things to think about after your first visit with your doctor:

Did you feel the doctor cared about your health and about you as a person?

Did you feel you were listened to and your needs were acknowledged and addressed?

Did the doctor use words you could understand and speak talk to you in a way that made you feel comfortable?

Was he or she respectful of your opinions, culture, and beliefs?

Did you feel like you could ask questions at the appointment or call the doctor later with questions?

If you answered “Yes” to these questions, you may have found a doctor that’s right for you. If you answered “No” to any of these questions, ask yourself if you think the doctor would make changes if you spoke up. Sometimes, that’s the best way to get what you are looking for.

Choosing the right doctor is one of the most important decisions you’ll make about your health care, and finding the right one can take a little work. Be patient as you try to find a doctor you can trust and partner with to live a long, healthy life!

Watch the video: "Like or Dislike" - from Coverage to Care

Print your own booklet: Step 7 – Decide If The Provider Is Right For You

Tue, 09 Sep 2014 00:00:00 -0400 Healthcare.gov https://www.healthcare.gov/blog/what-provider-is-right-for-you Having a major life change? We can help you find the right one.

Remember, you’re looking for a provider you can trust and work with to improve your health and well-being, so take time to think about what you need. Depending on how complicated your health care needs are, you may need to see more than one type of provider.

Primary Care Providers: You’ll see a primary care provider first for most health issues. They’ll work with you to get your recommended screenings, help you manage chronic conditions, and refer you to other types of providers if you need them. Your primary care provider may be called a family physician or doctor, internist, general practitioner, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant. Your child or teenager’s provider may be called a pediatrician.

Specialists: You’ll see a specialist for certain services or to treat specific conditions. Specialists include cardiologists, oncologists, psychologists, allergists, podiatrists, and orthopedists. You may need a referral from your primary care provider before you go to a specialist in order for your health plan to pay for your visit.

Here are some tips for finding a provider where you live:

If you already have a provider you like and want to keep working with, call their office and ask if they accept your coverage.

Call your insurance company or state Medicaid and CHIP program. There are some big differences between visits to your primary care provider and visits to the emergency room, such as cost, time spent waiting for care, and follow up.

Getting regular medical care: Primary care providers work with you to ensure that you get the right preventive services, manage your chronic conditions, and improve your health. Before you go to the doctor’s office, clinic, or health center, visit your health plan’s website and check their provider directory online. Did you recently get married, have a baby, adopt a child, or move? Did your student health plan just expire? If so, you may be able to get Marketplace coverage outside of Open Enrollment.

2. Apply for Medicaid and CHIP any time

You can enroll in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) any time of year. If you qualify, you can enroll right away.

3. Get covered on a parent's plan

You may be able to get covered under a parent’s health insurance plan until you turn 26. This is true even if you're married, not living at home, or not financially dependent on your parents. If you turn 26 and age off of a parent's plan, you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

4. Consider catastrophic health coverage

Protect yourself from the high costs of worst-case scenarios like accidents or serious illnesses. Here are 4 ways to get health coverage" />

College students and recent graduates have several options for finding coverage in the Health Insurance Marketplace.

1. Special Enrollment Periods for College Grads

If your student health plan is ending, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period to sign up for private health insurance in the Marketplace.

See if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

You may also be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period if you get married or divorced, have a baby or adopt a child, move to a new area, age off of a parent’s plan, or experience another qualifying life event.

2. Medicaid and CHIP coverage

You can enroll in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) any time of year. If you qualify you can enroll immediately.

Learn how to apply for Medicaid and CHIP.

Medicaid and CHIP provide health coverage for some individuals, families and children, pregnant women, the elderly with certain incomes, and people with disabilities. In some states the program covers all adults below a certain income level.

3. Coverage on a parent’s plan

You may also be able to get covered under a parent’s health insurance plan until you turn 26. This is true even if you are married, not living at home, or not financially dependent on your parents.

4. Catastrophic coverage

If you’re under 30, whether you’re a college graduate or not, you can buy a catastrophic health plan. These plans are an affordable way to protect yourself from the high costs of worst-case scenarios, like an accident or serious illness. They cover 3 primary care visits per year before you meet your deductible, as well as certain preventive care benefits.
Thu, 29 May 2014 00:00:00 -0400 Healthcare.gov https://www.healthcare.gov/blog/graduating-from-college-here-are-4-ways-to-get-health-coverage
