GREENBELT, MD –Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) visited the Ladies of Charity Food Pantry at St. Hugh of Grenoble Catholic Church this morning in Greenbelt, Maryland to deliver food items for local families in need during the holiday season and to greet staff and volunteers of the food pantry. Congressman Hoyer was joined by Greenbelt’s Mayor Emmett Jordan.

“I was pleased to visit the St. Hugh Ladies of Charity Food Pantry today to see firsthand how they are helping to provide nonperishable food items to families and individuals in the Fifth District,” stated Congressman Hoyer. “Food pantries play a vital role in assisting families who might otherwise have no place to turn for food, especially during the holiday season. I had the opportunity to greet the hardworking staff and volunteers from the pantry to discuss how they are continuing to better serve our communities. Ladies of Charity has done remarkable work providing important services to families and individuals who are in need, and I look forward to continuing to support their work.”

The Ladies of Charity is the world’s oldest faith-based volunteer group formed in 17th century France, and is recognized throughout the world as champions of the poor and underprivileged. The Ladies of Charity at St. Hugh of Grenoble Catholic Church was established in 1946. In addition to stocking the food pantry at St. Hugh and preparing food parcels for pick-up, the group participates in a number of activities within Prince George’s County, including providing financial assistance to help individuals bridge the gap to self-sufficiency.
