Trade Agreements Pass the House of Representatives

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins issued the following statement today in response to the House passage of the pending trade agreements with South Korea, Colombia, and Panama.

“In a time when the Congress seems to be able to find little common ground, today, after nearly five years of roadblocks, the House has passed pending trade agreements with South Korea, Colombia, and Panama.   These trade agreements, delayed by a variety of special interest stall tactics, will add billions to export sales and our GDP and provide Kansas agriculture producers and manufacturers with newly expanded markets to sell their goods. As we continue to fight our way through this difficult jobs crisis, pro-growth, pro-jobs measures like these trade deals, are essential to getting folks back in the work place.”

“Kansas farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers have been fighting with one arm tied behind their backs for too long, and they cannot afford to wait any longer. I urge the Senate to follow our lead and quickly approve these agreements.  This will open new markets for American businesses, spur our stagnant economy and get Kansans and the American people back to work.”
