Topeka Natives to Intern in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins is pleased to announce Ellen Dicus and Joe Schroeder both of Topeka, Kansas, are working as congressional interns in her Washington, D.C. office.

“From day one of their internships, Joe and Ellen have been great additions to my Washington office,” Jenkins said. “They are both extremely hard workers and are ready and willing to help my staff and me on important issues affecting Kansas. I am confident Scott and Ellen will serve Kansans well during their internships.”

Dicus will be a junior at Wake Forest University, majoring in communication and French with plans to study abroad in Dijon, France, this fall. At Wake Forest, Dicus writes for The Student Online Magazine and serves in multiple leadership and service organizations.  Ellen is the daughter of John and Brenda Dicus of Topeka.

Schroeder is a junior at the University of Tulsa with majors in economics and political science. Additionally, he works for the campus newspaper and participates in Tulsa’s student government association.  He recently completed an internship with U.S. Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.). Joe is the son of Ann and Patrick Schroeder of Topeka.

Dicus said, “I am so excited to be in Washington, D.C. learning about the legislative process and experiencing the political culture firsthand. My work will give me great experience as I consider my career options for post-graduation. I really appreciate the opportunity to work for Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins this summer.”

Schroeder said, “This internship is providing me with the perfect opportunity to see the legislative process up close and is giving me great experience as I explore career options. I hope my time on Capitol Hill will be something to remember.”
