ObamaCare: More Than A Website Issue

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Conference Vice Chair Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) joined her colleagues in House leadership to discuss why the President’s health care law is more than a broken website; it is a broken law. The American people have been tricked, and House Republicans are working hard to replace this health care law with something that will be a treat for the American people.

Vice Chair Lynn Jenkins:

“I am always excited this time of year when the neighborhood kids dress up and come trick or treating to my house.  But I’m not sure the American people are nearly as excited about trick-or-treating done Washington style.  I think a majority of Americans feel tricked by the rollout of the president’s health care law.

“We were told if you liked what you had you could keep it – obviously a trick.  We are hearing stories every day from Americans just like Bruno who are getting letters in the mail being told that they are not offering the health care they liked and wanted to keep.

“We were told premiums would go down.  And every day, folks are learning that that too was a trick.  They are having sticker shock at the prices that they are seeing on the website.

“I had a young woman – a neighbor of mine – stop by my house on Sunday that said her insurance was canceled.  She went to buy something similar to it and her copay has doubled, her monthly insurance premiums have doubled, and her out-of-pocket will nearly triple.

“That’s why House Republicans are working so hard to replace this health care law with something that will be a treat for the American people.  Patient-centered care that puts Americans back in the driver seat for their health care decisions.”
