Numbers Don't Lie – Take 2

WASHINGTON, D.C.–Last month, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) highlighted how there are currently over 350 bills that passed the House and are awaiting action in the Senate. While the experts often say people don’t care about numbers, as a CPA, Congresswoman Jenkins disagreed. Her assessment was correct. The video went viral and reached nearly 5 million people on Facebook. Today, at the weekly press conference with Republican leaders, Congresswoman Jenkins emphasized another number of evidence that one chamber is working and the other is not.

Following are Congresswoman Jenkins’ remarks:

“Over the past couple weeks I had the great pleasure of listening to a lot folks at home in Kansas and almost everyone that I spoke to asked me, why can’t Congress seem to get anything done.

“And there is no doubt that we all have a role in working together, but if you want evidence that the House is doing its job, and the Senate is not, you can simply look at the numbers.

“As many have mentioned this morning, over 350 bills the house has passed, many in a bipartisan way, were sent over to the Senate and the Senate has stalled.

“The House has even passed 7 of our appropriations bills, while the Senate has passed zero.

“This inaction in the Senate is what is causing middle-class families to get frustrated and squeezed everywhere they go and they hear about latest jobs report showing it’s the worst numbers we’ve seen this year.

“The House is working. The House actually has a strategy – unlike the president and the Senate – for jobs, a healthy economy, solutions to lower the cost of living, and to help restore opportunity for every American.”
