Native Topekan and Washburn University Students to Intern for Rep. Jenkins

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins is pleased to announce that Joe Mosimann of Topeka, Kansas and Amber Baker of Dover, Kansas are working as congressional interns in her Washington, D.C. office, and that Jon Trotter of Downs, Kansas, is working as a congressional intern in her Topeka office.

“Joe, Amber, and Jon have been terrific additions to my staff,” Jenkins said. “Their determination, intelligence, and strong work ethics have allowed each of them to hit the ground running. I am confident they will all serve the folks of Kansas well.”

Joe Mosimann is a graduate of Washburn Rural High School and attended the University of Kansas in 2003. He has been active in state politics since 2008 and held the position of Director of Member Services for the Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association of Kansas prior to moving to D.C. this summer. Joe is the son of Bill and Cathy Mosimann of Topeka.

“The opportunity to work with Congresswoman Jenkins and her staff was one I couldn’t pass up,” Mosimann noted. “If you come to Washington with a curiosity – how does it work, how important the staff is to the functioning of government, the service aspect of government – then it can be a really great experience for anyone.”

Amber Baker graduated from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, in May 2011 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies.  She is a current member of the National Association of Professional Women and a dedicated member of her small town community.  Amber intends to get her Master’s degree in Political Science followed by a career that will enable her to represent the interests of agricultural producers in Kansas.  Amber is the daughter of Lonnie Baker of Rose Hill, Kansas and Sharna Crow of Dover, Kansas and is the granddaughter of Neil and JoAnn Crow of Dover and Dana Baker of Eskridge, Kansas.

“The opportunity to work with Congresswoman Jenkins has proven to be a very beneficial experience” Amber noted. “I enjoy learning about the inner workings of Capitol Hill as well as gaining insight on legislation development and the objective impact of such on fellow Americans, while in addition having the opportunity to provide services to my state. I look forward to sharing this wonderful experience with my family and friends back home.”

Jon Trotter is a sophomore majoring in Legal Studies at Washburn University in Topeka, KS. He is involved on campus in Young Life, student government, and completed a Legislative internship with the Kansas House of Representatives in Spring 2011.

“Working with Congresswoman Jenkins this Fall is an incredible opportunity,” Trotter noted. “It is fascinating to learn about the way government works from the Kansas perspective, while serving with the staff in the district office. I am excited to see what the rest of the semester will bring.”
