More Than a Thousand Kansans Attend Jenkins' Second Annual Jobs Fair

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins hosted a jobs fair today at the Kansas Expocenter in Topeka to connect Kansans looking for work with local businesses.

“After almost three years many Kansans are still struggling to find work, so it should be the first priority of their representatives in Congress to create an environment where job growth and hiring can thrive again.  That is why I was honored today to be able to connect more than a thousand Kansans looking for jobs with employers who are hiring,” Jenkins said. “We saw today that there are jobs open in our state, and often it is a matter of connecting the folks looking for jobs with the employers looking to fill those positions.”

Congresswoman Jenkins invited local Kansas employers from both large and small businesses to participate in today’s jobs fair. Agriculture Hall was near max capacity with 74 employers offering over 1000 jobs represented at the fair. Employers representing health care agencies, credit unions, casinos, city governments, insurance companies, financial services institutions, schools, major restaurant chains, retail companies and many other industries were present at the jobs fair.

Congresswoman Jenkins continued, “Today’s fair was a great success, and it would not have been possible without such wonderful support from the local community. Rather than waiting for Washington to propose more big spending programs that attempt to turn this economy around, I’d rather take action now, work with the private sector to create an environment suitable to growth, and help Kansans find work today.”
