Jenkins: White House Predicts Record $1.84 Trillion Deficit

“It’s time to stop placing blame and start working together
on solutions to turn the economy around.”

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins released the following statement after the White House announced the budget deficit would reach $1.84 trillion this fiscal year, nearly $90 billion wider than previously predicted.

“There’s no doubt we’re in an economic crisis and that President Obama inherited a mess when he took office in January. But at some point, hopefully sooner rather than later, President Obama, his Administration and the Democrat Congress will learn what my constituents in Kansas already know – you cannot borrow and spend your way back to prosperity.

“The deficit projections released today predict this year’s deficit will skyrocket to $1.84 trillion, which is four times larger than the 2008 deficit. As a mother of two teenagers, I am very concerned that this Administration and the Democrat-controlled Congress continue to borrow from future generations to pay for new, massive government programs. It’s time to stop placing blame and start working together on common sense solutions to slow spending, create jobs and control debt.”
