Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02):

“Good morning. This week in Kansas I hosted my fifth annual jobs fair. We had over 900 employees looking for work come through the Expocentre. We had over 70 employers run the gamut from healthcare, to manufacturing, to education, and to finance. The stories, some were compelling, and some were sad.

“A mother of 4 has been out of work for 3 months and looking for work for the first time in 30 years. She is unemployed. Met a college grad who had a chemistry degree, underemployed, and looking to put their skills to better use.

“It is a sad time in America when we have a struggling economy and that’s why all of us are here in Washington to do our work in addition to doing things like the jobs fair back at home. We have the responsibility to create an environment in this nation that fosters a healthy economy and job creation and growth.

“I’m pleased that we have passed dozens of jobs bills that awake action in the Senate.

“I’m pleased again this week we will be taking up the R&D tax credit which will give some certainty and permanency so businesses can plan and innovate to create a vibrant economy.”
