Jenkins Visits Leavenworth During Congress to Kansas Tour

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins visited Leavenworth, Kan., to host a listening session as part of her Congress to Kansas tour. The discussion topics covered the farm bill, the budget, Medicare, energy production, and the role of government. The Congresswoman gave the following statement after her visit.

“It was great to hear from folks in Leavenworth today, and their concerns about the farm bill, Medicare, and the role our government plays in our lives.

“Medicare is a reoccurring topic of great concern no matter where I am in Kansas, because the Medicare program is bankrupt in 12 years. It is important to understand that House Republicans are the only ones with a plan, while President Obama cut $716 billion from Medicare to pay for his new health care law, and that is according to the Congressional Budget Office.

“The Ryan-Wyden plan has zero impact on current seniors 55 and older, it does not cut their benefits, and preserves and protects Medicare for future generations. Beginning in 2022, for those who are currently 54 or younger, when they reach retirement age, a new Medicare program would offer them a choice between staying with the traditional Medicare plan or a Medicare-approved plan similar to coverage offered to members of Congress.”

Dates and locations are being added to the tour all the time. If you would like to request a visit to your area, please email the office with the subject line: “Congress to Kansas Tour Request.”

Since 2009, Congresswoman Jenkins has held Congress to Kansas events during congressional work periods to keep Kansans informed about what she is doing in Washington.
