Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02):

“At a time when our economy is struggling and job creation is stagnant, the last thing hardworking Americans can afford are reduced hours.

“The 30-hour rule in the president’s healthcare law is putting full-time work and opportunity for decent wages out of reach for a million Americans that are already struggling.

“Teamsters’ President even said this rule will ‘destroy the foundation of the 40-hour work week that is the backbone of the American middle class.’

“I’ve also personally heard from a veteran in Kansas who is currently unemployed, and the only job he can find won’t let him work more than 30-hours per week.  He wants to work full-time, but his potential employer is wanting to hold him below the 30 hours to save money. After serving 11 years in the Navy, we should be finding ways to help people like Mike bring home more in their paychecks, not hinder opportunities and reduce working hours.

“Simply put, this law hurts more people than it helps. It’s time to restore the 40-hour work week and help those who are getting hit the hardest by this law.”

Please note:Tomorrow, the House will vote on H.R. 2575, the Save American Workers Act, sponsored by Representative Todd Young (R-IN) that repeals the ACA’s 30-hour rule and restores the traditional 40-hour work week.
