Jenkins: Suspected Terrorists Do Not Belong at Fort Leavenworth

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins made the following statement after President Obama delivered a speech that was supposed to provide details on the Administration’s plan to close the detention at Guantanamo Bay.

“Today, the President delivered a speech that was supposed to outline his Administration’s plan to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. Unfortunately, he did not answer the question my constituents in Kansas and all Americans want to know – where will he send the 240 suspected terrorists who pose a clear danger to the American people?

“In the past two weeks, both the House and Senate have sent a clear message that closure of the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay cannot move forward without a serious and detailed plan. When it comes to the safety and security of my constituents, no detail is too small, and the President’s speech today had too much rhetoric and too few critical details about his intentions. I continue to strongly oppose any plan to relocate suspected terrorists to Fort Leavenworth and hope President Obama will be more straightforward with the American people on where he intends to send terrorist detainees.”
