Jenkins Supports Record Spending Cuts

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (R-KS) voted in support of a short-term Continuing Resolution that will cut more than $6 billion in Federal spending over the next 3 weeks. This takes the total cuts for this 5 week period to over $10 billion, doubling what Harry Reid has proposed for the entire year.

After the vote, Congresswoman Jenkins made the following statement:

“Today, the politicians who got us into this spending mess sought to abandon real spending cuts in exchange for the hope of a longer continuing resolution with fewer cuts, but I refused to compromise. This vote to cut more than $6 billion over the next 3 weeks is a confirmation of our Pledge to America to cut $100 billion over the President’s budget.  While I would prefer and expect a long term resolution that meets our responsibilities to the American people, at a time when debt is eating our nation alive, I simply refuse to side with Nancy Pelosi, Charlie Rangel, and Democrat leadership in opposing this bill to cut spending.”
