Jenkins Supports Passage of DHS Conference Report

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins released the following statement after voting for the conference report for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Appropriations Act. The final legislation includes $32 million to finish design and begin construction of the National Bio- and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF):

“Kansas, and frankly our nation, needs NBAF to ensure public health and the safety and security of our national food supply. In this age of uncertainty and global threats, conducting vital research to protect our nation couldn’t be more crucial. I am pleased that the House today passed the DHS appropriations conference report that includes critical NBAF funding.

“This is especially good news for Kansas, since the NBAF will bring 1,500 construction jobs and 450 permanent jobs at the facility. At a time when good economic news is difficult to come by, this facility will generate much needed growth in the Kansas economy. I am hopeful the Senate will pass this legislation soon and send it to the President for his signature.”
