Jenkins Supports Legislation to Fund Our Troops

Legislation Prevents Suspected Terrorists from Being Transferred to Fort Leavenworth

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins made the following statement after voting for legislation to provide emergency funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“The war funding legislation that passed in the House today was not perfect. While I am disappointed the Democrat Majority added $12.2 billion for non-war related programs, I supported the legislation because it provides critical funding to our military men and women fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan to keep all of us safe and secure here at home.

“The legislation passed today prohibits using any federal funds to transfer the Guantanamo detainees to American soil until the President comes forward with a plan. However, this issue is far from resolved as the funding prohibition ends this October. Rest assured I will continue to fight to keep suspected terrorists out of Fort Leavenworth and to protect the critical mission of the Command and General Staff College. If the President is serious with his plan to close Guantanamo Bay, he absolutely must provide a comprehensive strategy to close the facility without jeopardizing the safety of the American people.”
