Jenkins Statement on Latest Jobs Report

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins issued the following statement today regarding the latest unemployment report released by the U.S. Department of Labor.

“Today we received yet another disappointing jobs report that once again shows us that the same tired Washington tactics are not working.  9.2% unemployment is unacceptable, and the American people deserve better.  Despite the President’s trillion dollar stimulus, unemployment has now stayed above eight percent for a devastating 29 months in a row.  This lack of jobs is a direct result of the lack of confidence in Washington to right this country’s fiscal ship.  It is time for the political gamesmanship in Washington to end, and for all parties to find common sense solutions to get this country back to work.”

“So far this year, the House has passed nine separate pro-growth bills that can grow our economy, and help create millions of jobs. To date, the Democratic-controlled Senate has not considered any of these bills.  The Republican House Leadership and those of us on the Ways and Means committee have continued to push for the passage of the 3 pending trade agreements which will create millions of jobs, but have been met with resistance time and again from the Washington establishment. Similarly, our efforts to make the tax code fairer and flatter for all Americans have failed to gain traction with many in Washington.  Real Americans are hurting.  20 million Americans are unemployed, only working part-time, or have given up looking for jobs that simply do not exist.  It is my hope that in the coming months the President and the Senate work with us and consider these common sense solutions.”
