Jenkins Statement on Latest Jobs Report

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins issued the following statement today in response to the August jobs report. In August, no net new jobs were added to the economy and unemployment remains at 9.1%.

“Today’s job numbers are very disappointing, and are further proof that the economy needs comprehensive solutions that will remove the uncertainty in the markets and get government out of the way so the private sector can start hiring again.   House Republicans have laid out a plan to do just that.  We understand that to spur job growth in the private sector we must address excessive Washington spending, institute comprehensive tax reform that closes loopholes and lowers rates, and remove the overbearing regulations that are destroying confidence in our ability to grow ourselves out of this stagnation.  When the President addresses Congress on the jobs crisis next week, it is my hope that rather than proposing the more short-term stimulus measures, he will work with us to institute these common sense solutions to this devastating jobs problem.”
