Jenkins Statement of Latest Jobs Report

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins issued the following statement today in response to the September unemployment report. The unemployment rate remains at 9.1%.

"Today's jobs numbers are further proof that Washington needs to work together and find common ground so we can end the uncertainty in our job market.  Yet, while I am ready to work, I’m concerned that some politicians are more intent on scoring political points on the campaign trail than getting folks back to work. The uncertainty caused by Government overspending, the overly complicated  tax code, an uncertain trade environment and overzealous federal regulators has paralyzed our job creators. The result has been thirty months of unemployment hovering around 9 percent.”

“Leveling the playing field internationally is one way to spark job growth in Kansas, but for years, three trade agreements have sat motionless in the White House. That is why I was extremely pleased this week, when President Obama finally sent the agreements to the House where, with my support, they sailed through the Ways and Means Committee with bipartisan votes.  I anticipate they will easily clear the full House next week.  I have grown frustrated to see the Senate continually kill the House's efforts to spark job growth by easing punitive regulations and streamlining the tax code.  However, while the President is now traveling the country vilifying those same efforts, I am hopeful that these job creating trade agreements are one thing both parties can agree on.  The American people are hurting.  They need jobs, and it’s time Washington stopped squabbling and did something about it.   I will continue to fight for the American people, American businesses, and American jobs. I hope in the days and weeks ahead the President and our friends across the aisle will put politics aside and join us.”
