Jenkins Participates in Taxpayer Tea Parties

“The reckless spending and taxing in Washington has got to stop.”

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins made the following statement after speaking at taxpayer “Tea Parties” in Pittsburg and Iola on Wednesday, April 15.

“Hard-working Americans came together today in cities and towns across the nation for one purpose – to send a message to Washington that they are tired of footing the bill for the wasteful government programs that won’t create jobs or turn the economy around. The spending and taxing are just part of it. In the 220 years between President George Washington and President George W. Bush, our nation accrued $5.8 trillion in public debt. Rather than proposing a plan to pay that down, President Obama instead offered a plan to add an additional $12 trillion in public debt that our children and grandchildren will have to pay back.

“I was proud to stand with the folks in Pittsburg and Iola to say increasing taxes on hard-working families to expand the size of government is the wrong direction to take our nation. Families have had to tighten their belts to get through this recession, and Washington should follow suit. Republicans have offered alternatives that will create jobs, restrain spending and control debt, and it is time for the President to work with both Republicans and Democrats in Congress on common-sense solutions to turn the economy around and protect taxpayers’ hard-earned money.”
