Jenkins Named to Ways and Means Committee

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins was named to the House Committee on Ways and Means, the chief tax-writing committee of the United States House of Representatives.

Ways and Means is an exclusive and powerful committee that has jurisdiction over all revenue-generating measures, including tax policy, trade, unemployment benefits, and entitlement programs including Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.  Additionally, the committee is responsible for overseeing the implementation and reforms to the new federal health care law which was enacted in March.  As a member of the Committee, Congresswoman Jenkins will play a significant role in developing our Nation’s tax, trade and healthcare laws.

“I am honored to be the ninth Kansan to ever serve on the House Ways and Means Committee.  It is incredibly humbling to join the ranks of Representatives Charles Curtis and Frank Carlson, who previously served on this prestigious committee.” Jenkins said. “I have spent my entire professional career as a certified public accountant working on economic and tax issues, and I am looking forward to working alongside Chairman Camp and the other members of the Committee to find ways to create jobs and reduce the Federal debt and deficit.”

“The economy has continued to struggle over the last two years.  It is my sincere hope that the next Congress, led by the Republican House majority, will enact responsible measures that will right our financial ship and get America back to work. More taxes, more spending, more mandates and more bailouts that increase the role of the federal government and place more of a burden on taxpayers are not the answers to our problems. I am committed to working with the other committee members to address the root of the issues facing our economy and to help get the nation back on its feet.”
