Jenkins Named to Influential Ways and Means Subcommittees

Multi-Billion Dollar Kansas Export Industry Gains Powerful Advocate as Jenkins is Named to the Trade and Oversight Subcommittees

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins, who in December was appointed to the House Committee on Ways and Means, the chief tax-writing committee in the United States House of Representatives, was selected to serve on both the Subcommittee on Trade and the Subcommittee on Oversight today.

“Serving on the Ways and Means Trade and Oversight Subcommittees is a true honor,” Jenkins said. “The people of Eastern Kansas were hit hard by the economic downturn, and are struggling to get back to their feet.  These key subcommittees have jurisdiction over a wide variety of issues and will put me at the forefront of the debate as we look to find solutions to right our fiscal course and work toward a full recovery.

“Repealing the Democrats’ job-killing takeover of the health care industry will be a top priority in the 112th Congress. My post on the Oversight Subcommittee will allow me to play a direct role in this process as we oversee the repeal and replacement of the administration’s Obamacare program.

“Kansas is one of the leading export states in the nation.  According to the Kansas Department of Commerce, Kansas companies exported $8.9 billion in goods in 2009. My position on the Trade Subcommittee will allow me to be a strong advocate for free trade on behalf of the thousands of Kansas exporters and agriculture producers who take part in billions of dollars of trade each year.”
