Jenkins Joins Economic Recovery Working Group to Launch the "YouCut" Project to Cut Government Spending

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins joined the House Republican Economic Recovery Working Group to launch YouCut, a first-of-its-kind project designed to change the culture of spending in Washington to a culture of savings.

“Over the past 16 months, I have voted against trillions in new spending in the House and introduced the Debt Accountability Act to hold Congress accountable for the money it spends. Stopping the out of control spending in Washington, however, will take more than just my efforts,” Jenkins said. “That is why I am proud to join the House Republican Economic Recovery Working Group to launch the YouCut project to do something almost unheard of in Washington: cut spending.”

Starting today, project YouCut will give folks from Eastern Kansas and around the nation the opportunity to vote on spending cuts they would like to see the House of Representatives enact. Each week, five proposals to reduce wasteful or unnecessary spending will be listed online at www.republicanwhip.house.gov/YouCut. House Republicans will then offer an up or down vote on bringing up the spending cut that receives the most votes.

Jenkins continued, “America is at a crossroads. If the out of control spending in Washington is not stopped, future generations will not enjoy the same America. The YouCut project will not head off our nation’s severe debt problem on its own, but it is the first step we must take to begin to put our nation’s fiscal house back in order. I hope all Kansans will participate in the YouCut project and stand with me in an effort to stop the out of control spending culture in Washington.”
