Jenkins: It Is Unfair That The President Would Put Politics Before People

WASHINGTON– Today, Conference Vice Chair Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) joined with the House leadership team to discuss today’s votes on two bills that will extend the same relief from the President’s healthcare law’s mandates to individuals and families that this administration is giving to big businesses.

Vice Chair Lynn Jenkins:

“A Democrat Senator recently referred to the President’s healthcare law as a “train wreck,” but what many of us don’t understand is why he would allow big businesses to exit the train safely and leave individuals and small businesses on the train for the crash. This is simply unfair.

“It is certainly easy to understand why the President would want to delay the employer mandate until after the next election cycle, because every employer can tell you it’s going to cost them jobs and increase their cost. But it’s unfair that the President would put politics before people.

“As Congressman (Todd) Young referred to a survey recently, that only 12 percent of Americans support the individual mandate, so we can certainly understand their frustration with this decision. Every individual knows this is going to result in higher premiums, and if you like what you have you’re not going to be able to keep it. We have access to care concerns, and it is going to cost jobs, hours, and wages.

“We look forward to working with our colleagues in the House to not only temporarily delay both of these mandates, but hope to repeal and replace it entirely.”
