Jenkins: House Misses Another Opportunity for Fiscal Responsibility

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins made the following statement after the House of Representatives passed a short-term resolution to fund the federal government at the current spending level.

“Today Congress voted to fund the federal government until next Wednesday at the current level. Even though this short-term resolution is far better than Nancy Pelosi’s $410 billion plan, the House missed yet another opportunity to reduce the financial burden on all Americans. Republicans in the House offered an alternative plan to extend the current funding level until the end of September of this year. The Republican plan would have saved $19 billion and provided some fiscal restraint to a Congress that is spending the taxpayer’s hard-earned money at a record pace.

“When Congress returns next week, I hope more Democrats will decide to protect their constituent’s money and join me in my call for an immediate freeze to this runaway government spending.”
