Jenkins Elected as House Republican Conference Vice Chair

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (R-KS) was elected as Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference by her Republican colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives. The House Republican Conference is the leadership team that represents House Republicans and advances the party’s communication strategy. Jenkins released the following statement after the election:

“The opportunity to hold a leadership position is a tremendous honor, and I am humbled by my colleagues’ support.

“Working together will be essential to tackling the challenges America faces, but we will not compromise on our values, or any policy we feel will slow down the economic growth this country needs. We have the opportunity to provide a better future for our children. It is time to start governing and move this country forward.

“I whole-heartedly believe Republicans have the best ideas to help Americans get back to work. As a CPA, I know we need pro-growth solutions to change the course of the economy, and that means comprehensive tax reform: closing loopholes, lowering the rates, and creating a fairer tax code for everyone.

“The next few years will be critical for our party to define our message as Republicans. We are, in fact, a party that supports the empowerment of women, minority groups, and America’s youth. We have an inclusive vision that seeks to protect the American family and put the people first.”

Jenkins joins Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, Conference Chair Cathy McMorris-Rodgers, NRCC Chair Greg Walden, Republican Policy Committee Chair James Lankford and Conference Secretary Virginia Foxx as members of the House Republican leadership team. Conference Vice Chair is the fifth-highest ranking position in House Republican Leadership.

Originally elected to Congress in 2008, Jenkins is proud to be serving her third term representing Eastern Kansas. Jenkins is a Certified Public Accountant with nearly 20 years experience, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, and previously served in the Kansas House, Senate, and as Kansas State Treasurer. Jenkins learned the value of hard work growing up on a dairy farm in rural Kansas. She is the mother of two children, Hayley and Hayden, and resides in Topeka, Kan.
