Jenkins Congratulates West Elementary for Receiving School of Distinction Award

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins congratulates West Elementary School in Wamego for being recognized as one of six winners across the nation of the Intel School of Distinction Award. West Elementary was the winner in math category for elementary schools. Jenkins met with leaders from West Elementary in her office while they were visiting Washington, D.C. to receive this award.

“A prosperous future for our nation is dependent upon the next generation of Americans being equipped with the skills to be successful in a highly innovative economy,” Congresswoman Jenkins said. “West Elementary has gone above and beyond to provide its students with a top-notch educational experience, and I am proud they are being recognized by Intel with a School of Distinction Award.”

West Elementary School was recognized as one of six recipients of the School of Distinction Award. To be considered for this award, schools “must develop an environment and curricula that meet or exceed benchmarks put forth by national mathematics and science content standards.” In the 2008-2009 school year, 97.8 percent of West Elementary School’s students met or exceeded the standard on the Kansas Math Assessments.
