Jenkins' Commends Passage of FY 2013 Path to Prosperity

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H. Con Res 112, the Path to Prosperity, the Federal Budget for Fiscal Year 2013:

“We are on the precipice of a financial abyss.  Without a serious, detailed, and responsible path forward, America’s fiscal future will mirror the fate of debt laden countries in the European Union.   The Path to Prosperity as authored by Rep. Paul Ryan, provides us with that needed path.  This honest plan, which I was proud to vote for today as it passed the House, is yet another historic step taken by House Republicans as we strive to rein in out of control spending and ensure our children and grandchildren have the same opportunities we enjoy.”

“Our budget addresses the drivers of our national debt and removes decades of loopholes, accounting gimmicks and broken promises that have buried our nation under a mountain of debt now exceeding $15 trillion. We chart a path to a balanced budget, establish the frame work for comprehensive tax reform, outline a plan to pay down the national debt, and establish a plan to protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid for generations to come.  It is time Washington got serious about our financial perils.  We can’t afford to wait any longer.  I sincerely hope the Senate will break their 3 year budgetary silence and pass the Path to Prosperity.”
