Jenkins Asks Kansas Health Policy How Medicaid Changes Will Affect Kansans

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins released the following statement after sending a letter to the Kansas Health Policy Authority asking about the effects Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill, H.R. 3962, would have on the state of Kansas.

“Like many other states around the nation, Kansas has been forced to make budget cuts to weather this recession. As the House prepares to vote on Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill, I think it is important to know what this legislation will cost Kansas. In addition to creating a government-controlled “public option,” H.R. 3962 imposes unfunded mandates on states to pay for an expansion of Medicaid. While the goal of covering more of the uninsured in our nation is one we all share, I cannot support a plan that will make the fiscal challenges facing Kansas even worse.”
