Jenkins: 76 Percent of Americans Are Living Paycheck to Paycheck, Increasing Energy Costs is the Wrong Direction

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Conference Vice Chair Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) joined with the House leadership team to discuss the president’s plan to implement more destructive regulations that will destroy jobs and make energy less affordable for families. The House all-of-the-above energy solution is a better alternative that will bring down costs and give all Americans a more secure future.

Vice Chair Lynn Jenkins:

“Back in 2008 the president promised millions of jobs from clean energy and at the end of his first term we saw the economy shed about a half a million jobs – a lot of them due to just overregulation.

“House Republicans are determined to stop shedding jobs. His (President Barack Obama) announcement yesterday, that we would have additional red tape coming in, and that he was going to declare a “war on coal” is the wrong direction to go.

“I read yesterday 76 percent of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. When you increase the cost of energy, make it harder for employers to give raises and to hire that next employee, that is going the wrong direction.

“Hopefully House Republicans will act this week to go in the right direction, so that we can get this economy moving and people back to work to make their lives easier not more difficult.”
