Jenkins: 2012 Republican Budget Proposal Fills Leadership Void

Washington, D.C.– Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) issued the following statement in support of the House Republicans' Fiscal Year 2012 Budget Resolution:

“It is time for Washington to tell the truth.  Decades of loopholes, accounting gimmicks, and broken promises have buried this nation under a mountain of debt that now exceeds $14 trillion. Unless we can face facts and make substantial changes to our system, the financial future looks bleak for our kids.”

“But I am encouraged today by the release of the Republican budget for 2012. Our plan moves past politics, addresses the drivers of our debt, and places us on a path to prosperity. These common sense reforms cut spending by $6.2 trillion over the next 10 years, reduce the deficit by more than $4 trillion in the same time frame, simplify our tax code, and establish a plan to make Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid solvent in the years to come.”

“This proposal sits in a stark contrast to the President’s budget which seeks to raise taxes by $1.5 trillion and remains silent on one of the most pressing issues of the day, our debt crisis. The President failed to lead in his 2012 budget, and I am pleased that House Republican’s filled that void and took up the mantle of leadership. The Republican budget proves that we are serious about tackling the major issues facing this country and creating a climate of certainty for our job creators. I hope we can work together to make this proposal a reality.”
