House Republican Budget Creates Jobs, Protects Seniors, and Balances the Budget

WASHINGTON—Today the U.S. House of Representatives passed a plan to balance the budget without raising taxes by a vote of 221-207. Congresswoman Jenkins released the following statement after the vote:

“I am proud House Republicans are the only people in this town with the courage to balance the budget, but our plan is about so much more than balance. Our budget is about increasing opportunities for all hardworking Americans, so they can provide a brighter future for their kids and grandkids. This is the American Dream, and we must protect it for future generations by addressing our nation’s challenges today. The House Republican budget does exactly this. It would return the economy to an engine of growth, create jobs, protect seniors’ retirement benefits, and finally do something to address our nation’s long-term debt problem.

“Our plan is not austerity. It merely returns spending and taxes back to historical, stable levels that this country operated under for nearly 60 years. Instead of raising taxes, our plan implements comprehensive, pro-growth tax reform, and would boost economic growth that would provide an extra $1,500 for each U.S. household next year, and more than $4,000 per household in the next 10 years. This is the kind of help folks need and deserve.”
