House Passes Budget To Put America On A Path For Prosperity

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives passed the Republican budget that balances in 10 years, without raising taxes by a vote of 219-205. Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) released the following statement:

“The priorities in the House budget will reform Washington spending, boost our economy, and get our nation on a path to a balanced budget.  Kansans sent me to Washington to make tough decisions, and I refuse to accept the new status quo for our children’s future. I voted today on a plan to get people back to work and give hardworking Americans more take home pay so everyone has the opportunity to live the American dream.”

Items to note:

  • Yesterday, the President’s budget was defeated in the House, 2-413. The budget proposal included $1.8 trillion in taxes, never balanced, and could compromise our nation’s security.
  • The Senate has announced their refusal to even debate a budget this year.  The Senate has only passed a budget once in the past five years as required by law. The only budget they passed was in 2013, which was due to legislation originating in the House that would have cut off their pay had they failed to pass a budget for FY2014.
  • A new survey today revealed that nearly half of American’s believe our best days are in the past.
  • The House Republican budget cuts spending by $5.1 trillion over the next ten years. It targets wasteful Washington spending and reforms the drivers of the debt.
