4/11/2013
WASHINGTON—More than 60 years after his death in a North Korean prison camp, Kansas-born Army chaplain Father Emil Kapaun will receive the United States’ Medal of Honor, our nation’s highest military honor, from President Obama during a White House ceremony today. Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins released the following statement about the award:
“Father Kapaun’s example of faith, self-sacrifice and commitment to his fellow man should serve as an example for all of us. He was an outstanding priest, soldier and humanitarian, and today’s award is long overdue for a man who clearly exemplified the true meaning of heroism.”
