Democrats Concern for the Deficit Seems to Apply to Tax Increases But Not Earmarks and Massive Spending Bills

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins released the following statement on President Obama and Senate Democrats’ pork-laden ‘omnibus’ spending bill.

“Democrats have had more than 11 months to pass legislation that would responsibly fund the Federal Government, but rather than governing, Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid have decided to end the 111th Congress in the same way they began it by forcing a massive spending bill down the throats of the American people that will be paid for by our children and grandchildren.  This 1,924 page spending bill, which funds the Government for the remainder of the fiscal year, is little more than one last desperate attempt by the Democrat majority to sneak through the kind of pork barrel projects that got them thrown from office this November.

“When I was elected to Congress, Eastern Kansans knew that wasteful earmarks, runaway government spending, and the same tired notion that we are going to spend our way out of debt were leading this country down the wrong path.  I think we saw on election night that the rest of the country has made the same realization. I urge President Obama to stand behind his pledge for debt and deficit reduction and pledge to veto any omnibus spending bill which includes earmarks and wasteful, unnecessary government spending.”
