WASHINGTON – Today Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) voted in support of H.J. Res 59, Continuing Appropriations Resolution, 2014, to keep the government open through mid-December without increasing spending levels, and to allow the House time to finish its appropriations process. Congresswoman Jenkins released the following statement after the vote:

“Today, the House passed legislation absolutely necessary to keep the government open and continue providing vital services for Americans. This bill is a straight-forward extension that does not increase spending, defunds the President’s health care law, and prevents a government shutdown.  

“Thanks to the President’s health care law, businesses across the country are dropping workers and their spouses from their employer-based healthcare coverage, and some are being forced to lay off workers altogether. President Obama has delayed certain aspects of his law that most affect his corporate donors and recently some unions have asked for an exemption. While he has delayed the law for corporations, to date the President remains opposed to a delay or exemption for individual Americans.

“While the President refuses to act, Kansans who are struggling to fight for themselves and their families in this weak economy have sent me to Washington to fight for them – to help make life a little easier for them. This is what I intend to do, and it starts with repealing and replacing the President’s health care law. It is now the responsibility of the U.S. Senate to give the American people a real debate about the punishing impacts of this unworkable law.”
