Congresswoman Jenkins Unveils Bipartisan Legislative Package With No Labels' Problem Solvers

WASHINGTON– Today, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) helped present a new bipartisan legislative reform package as a member of the No Labels’ Problem Solvers coalition. With 65 of 81 Problem Solvers gathered at the U.S. Capitol’s Upper Senate Park, Democrat and Republican members of Congress from both the House and Senate showed support for the Make Government Work! package. This package includes nine common-sense bills designed to make government more efficient, effective, and less wasteful.

“We are not about checking our principles at the door. We are about listening to and respecting each other as we work to strengthen America,” said Jenkins during the event.

Congresswoman Jenkins supports several bills in the Make Government Work! package. Among others, Jenkins is a cosponsor of H.R. 1869, a bill to move Congress to a two-year budgeting process; H.R. 2506, a bill to get rid of duplicate agencies identified by the Government Accountability Office; and H.R. 2643, a bill to reduce agency travel by 50 percent and replace it with video conferencing.

“This Congress is terribly unpopular, and for good reason; next to nothing is getting done. It is time to put the American people ahead of politics, work together, and restore the American people’s trust in our nation’s leaders,” said Jenkins. “I came to Washington because I wanted to find real solutions to help real people, and that is why I am a member of the Problem Solvers.”

Congresswoman Jenkins joined the No Labels’ Problem Solvers group in December 2012, and was one of the 24 inaugural members of the Problem Solvers coalition. Since then, the coalition has more than tripled in size to 81 members. The goal of the event was to inform the public of the progress the No Labels’ Problem Solvers are making, and how building trust across the aisle can truly make a difference.
