Congresswoman Jenkins' Statement Following President Obama's Remarks on Syria

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) released the following statement after President Barack Obama addressed the nation regarding the Syria situation tonight:

“I agree with President Obama that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s use of chemical weapons to attack his own people was a horrific crime and I join the president in condemning Assad’s actions. However, while I am open to evolving diplomatic solutions, I remain unconvinced injecting our military into the middle of a violent civil war is in America's best interest."

Congresswoman Jenkins met with Vice President Biden at the White House this morning to discuss President Obama’s proposal for a military strike against Syria. After meeting with the president on Capitol Hill this afternoon, Senators agreed to postpone a vote to authorize the use of U.S. military force against Syria until diplomatic efforts play out in coming days.
