Congresswoman Jenkins Responds to White House Attempt to Change Health Care Law

WASHINGTON- Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) released the following statement in response to the administration’s recent announcement regarding how the president’s health care law applies to members of Congress and their staff:

“Apparently, President Obama thinks his own healthcare law is merely a suggestion, because once again the administration is trying to rewrite their very own law unilaterally. Laws are not suggestions; they are laws. What is more disturbing is that elected Democrats have spent YEARS defending ObamaCare, and when push came to shove, they looked for an additional subsidy to help them afford the “Affordable Care Act” exchanges, and left the American people stranded. If the current law is not good enough for Congress, it is not good enough for you.”

“Whether or not this particular “fix” makes sense is irrelevant. The point is that the Democrat members of Congress who passed this law were going to be negatively affected by it and demanded the president “fix” it for them, but not everyone else. My question is: where is the “fix” for the American people Mr. President?

“I did not vote for the president’s healthcare law in 2010 and have worked continuously to repeal and replace this law with a better solution. In fact, I have personally introduced H.R. 2938, The Exchange Sunset Act of 2013, and H.R. 2835, Restoring Access to Medication Act, to provide some relief for the American people.”
