Congresswoman Jenkins Responds To VHA Announcement At Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center

WASHINGTON– The Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA) announced that today it will halt emergency room services at the Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center until the current physician shortage is remedied by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA). Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) released the following statement:

“For months, I have been working with local and federal VA officials responding to serious allegations brought to my attention by current and former staff at Colmery-O'Neil. While I am disappointed it had to come to the temporary closure of operations in the emergency room, I am pleased that these allegations are being taken seriously and that concrete steps are being taken to ensure veterans in Northeast Kansas get the absolute greatest care they are entitled to.

“I will continue to work tirelessly with the VA as they conduct what I hope will be a thorough investigation with swift corrective actions to make this a fully functional VA medical center.”

Attached are documents Congresswoman Jenkins has sent and received on this issue.
