Congresswoman Jenkins Responds to Boeing's Plan to Close Facilities in Kansas

WASHINGTON – After announcing its plans to study the future of its facilities in Wichita back in November, today the Boeing Company announced its intention to close the Boeing facility in Wichita, which currently employs more than 2,160 people.  Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins released the following statement after Boeing’s announcement:

“I have always believed that a person is only as good as their word, but the same holds true for businesses and corporations.  Sadly, it looks like the Boeing Company’s word isn’t as good as it appeared.  After years of promises, it now seems as if Boeing will not be finishing the KC-46A Refueling Tanker in Kansas and, in fact, will be closing their Kansas operation all together.”

“The aviation industry is immensely important to the Kansas economy and vital to thousands of Kansans who make their living as technicians, suppliers, or employees of the aviation companies in our state.  It is a shame to see Boeing’s 80 year relationship with Kansas sour this way, but my colleagues in the Kansas Congressional Delegation and I will continue to do everything in our power to keep the Kansas aviation industry a strong and vital force in our economy.”
