Congresswoman Jenkins Marks Tax Day With Need for Reform

WASHINGTON—Congresswoman Jenkins marks tax day by discussing the need for comprehensive tax reform, and her work on the House Ways and Means Committee to further this goal. She released the following video this morning:

“As we mark tax day, families and small businesses in Kansas and nationwide are facing greater uncertainty thanks to Washington’s higher taxes, out of control spending, and failed economic policies.

“Over the past months, those of us on the House Ways and Means Committee, which is the chief tax writing committee in the House, have dedicated our time to making progress toward achieving tax reform that would create economic growth and a business environment that fosters job creation for hardworking Americans.

“The goal of tax reform is to make the tax code simpler, fairer, and reduce costs for you, your families and small businesses.

“Part of my job as the chair of the Income and Tax Distribution Working Group, is to specifically focus on how the federal tax code affects each taxpayer.

“We are taking a broad look at the tax system in order to better understand: who is paying taxes and who isn’t, does the current tax code encourage or discourage economic growth, how the slew of special interest loopholes affect real people and business, and how we can reduce or eliminate them.

“I think Kansans understand we are all paying the federal government more out of our paychecks this year. You have my word that while paying taxes may never be pleasant, when we are done with tax reform, it will at least be fairer and less painful.”
