Congresswoman Jenkins Congratulates 2nd District Congressional Art Competition Winners

TOPEKA, KAN.–This afternoon, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) visited Lawrence High School to congratulate the 2014 Congressional Art Competition winners. The Congresswoman released the following statement after the event:

“Eastern Kansas is filled with talented artists. This year, I received more entries than any prior year and I am always very impressed by the quality of the artwork submitted.  Each piece is unique and tells an interesting story. Congratulations to the winner, Amaiya Reeder from Lawrence High School, and all the students who entered the competition.”

2014 Congressional Art Competition Finalists (photos are attached):

1st place:“Touching My Identity” by Amaiya Reeder, Lawrence High School

2nd place:“The Room” by Jared Scrinospskie, Topeka West High School

3rd place:“Looking to the Past” by Ashley Hocking, Lawrence High School

4th place:“Recollection” by Sophia Gilbert Smith, Lawrence High School

Digital Award Winner:“Back in Time” by Kennadi Michael, Topeka West High School

 

Items to Note:

  • Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives to encourage and recognize the artistic abilities of their young constituents.  Since it began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have been involved with the Congressional Art Competition.
  • The winning artists will have their work displayed in the United States Capitol for one year and they are invited to Washington D.C. to attend a national awards ceremony in June.
