Congresswoman Jenkins Calls On President To Keep His Promise, Support Keep Your Health Plan Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Conference Vice Chair Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) joined her colleagues in House leadership to call on President Obama to keep his promise that if you like your health insurance plan, you will be able to keep it. The President needs to keep that promise to the American people, and support H.R. 3350, the Keep Your Health Plan Act.

Vice Chair Lynn Jenkins:

“I too have been contacted by a whole host of constituents back home who heard the president a few years ago say, ‘If you liked what you had, you can keep it.’ They believed him, and now they are sorely disappointed because their mailboxes are finding letters like this one.

“From a family down in Pittsburg, Kan., a young married couple with a five-year-old daughter and a new baby on the way next year. Their policy was canceled and they’ve been shopping around. The closest thing they could find was about $150 more every month than their old policy.

“This is about real people, real people’s lives, and it goes further than just the health care law.  I think this is indicative of the thinking of this administration and those across the aisle that believe the genius of America lies in Washington, D.C.  It is a power grab.  They are seizing all of the authority from the American people, states, and local communities.

“It is time to reject that notion because most of us up here realize the genius of America lies in places like Pittsburg, Kan., and Topeka, Kan., and Lawrence. We are going to be pleased to pass Chairman Upton’s bill this week that will restore some faith and trust in this government, and give back to the people some of the authority we have taken from them.”
